Can't wait for Shark Week?

Here's a compilation of shark-related goodies to keep you from plunging into shark-deprivation madness:

It's finally here—Shark Week!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shark Week 2011 News

  • In order to make Shark Week more social, Discovery has launched Shark Week Live to chat with other Shark Week fans and get interesting factoids while watching this year's premieres.
  • Or you could be social in person with a real shark expert! More than 50 of the world's top shark experts are participating in an auction to benefit the Shark Research Institute. Check out the Southern Fried Science blog's description, then review the auction catalog yourself and place a bid for an opportunity share a meal and conversation with an expert you've likely seen on the Discovery Channel!
  • You may have heard that Discovery had a contest to find it's host for Shark Week 2011; unfortunately, they weren't looking for fans like you and me, but celebrity types…in order to lure in fans like you and me. Guess they haven't figured out that the sharks are the main attraction and, at best, the host just needs to not get in the way! Anyway, this year's host—now called a Chief Shark Officer—is Andy Sandberg.
